Migration im Spiegel von Massenmedien

Installation mit Spiegel und Audio / installation with mirror and audio / instalacja z lustrem i audio systemem

(DE) Drei identische, aber aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven gestaltete Spiegel sollen das komplexe Verhältnis zwischen (Massen-)Medien und Migration, zwischen Fremd- und Selbstbild, reflektieren. Sie thematisieren, wie Identität in einem Spannungsfeld von Nachrichten und fehlenden Narrativen erlebt werden kann. Vor dem Hintergrund Oberschlesiens gilt die Herausforderung, die eigene Identität zwischen Ganzheit, Fragmentierung und Unklarheit zu begreifen – insbesondere dann, wenn Medienbilder nur fragmenthafte oder verzerrte Darstellungen zurückgeben.

Mittels QR-Codes wird die Installation mit Audioaufnahmen begleitet: gesprochene Dialoge in Form von Schlagzeilen sollen hierbei verdeutlichen, wie mediale Berichterstattung das ohnehin schon komplexe migrantische Selbstbild weiter verkomplizieren kann.

Die Installation lädt ein, in den Spiegel zu schauen und eine neue Perspektive einzunehmen, indem man fragt, was übrig bleibt, wenn Geschichten Einzelner in der Masse untergehen.

(EN) Migration as reflected in the mass media

Three identical mirrors, but designed from different perspectives, are intended to reflect the complex relationship between (mass) media and migration, between the image of others and the image of oneself. They address how identity can be experienced in a field of tension between news and a lack of narratives. Against the backdrop of Upper Silesia, the challenge is to understand one’s own identity between wholeness, fragmentation and ambiguity – especially when media images only return fragmentary or distorted representations.

Audio recordings accompany the installation with spoken dialogues in the form of headlines that illustrate how media coverage can further complicate the already complex migrant self-image.

The installation invites us to look in the mirror and adopt a new perspective by asking what remains when individual stories are lost in the masses.

(PL) Migracja odzwierciedlona w mediach masowych

Trzy identyczne lustra, ale zaprojektowane z różnych perspektyw, mają odzwierciedlać złożoną relację między (masowymi) mediami, a migracją, między obrazem innych, a obrazem samego siebie. Tematyzują sposób w jaki tożsamość może być doświadczana w polu napięcia, między wiadomościami, a brakującymi narracjami. Na tle Górnego Śląska, wyzwaniem jest zrozumienie własnej tożsamości, między całością, fragmentacją i niejednoznacznością – zwłaszcza gdy obrazy medialne zwracają jedynie fragmentaryczne lub zniekształcone reprezentacje.

Instalacji towarzyszą nagrania audio wykorzystujące kody QR: dialogi mówione w formie nagłówków, mają na celu zilustrowanie w jaki sposób relacje medialne mogą dodatkowo skomplikować i tak już kompleksowy obraz własny migrantów.

Instalacja zachęca odwiedzających do spojrzenia w lustro i przyjęcia nowej perspektywy, pytając co pozostaje, gdy historie jednostek giną w masie.
